Tool drummer Danny Carey says the band is actively writing and hopes to have new music ready in 2027. Speaking with the Spiral Out Network, Carey framed the date as a target, not a firm promise, with the group still developing ideas and tightening songs as the process moves along.
He also said Tool has held conversations about a possible run of shows at the Las Vegas Sphere around that same window. The venue is designed for huge, immersive visuals, and Tool’s live reputation has long included a strong visual element, so the concept lines up naturally.
Carey pointed out that Sphere-level production comes with real hurdles. The video and staging demands are high, and the cost of building content at that scale can be steep, meaning it often takes several nights of shows before the numbers start to work. He added that he has toured the venue and was struck by how intense the experience feels inside.
Tool last released a studio album in 2019 with Fear Inoculum.
